Bruce C Thompson
N7TY
Seeley, CA U.S.A.
I grew up in Port Angeles, Washington, USA and was first licensed as WB7RHT in 1977. I operated as IT9/WB7RHT in Catania, Italy (on Sicily's east coast) from 1980 to 1981 and from 1985 to 1988 and as MØBKC in Littleport, England (near Cambridge) from 1997 to 1998. In 2005, after 28 years of using WB7RHT, I decided to change my call. I applied for and received N7TY, a very easy call to send in CW. Although I am interested in all areas of Amateur Radio, my favorite activities are chasing DX on CW and casual contesting.
Some of my awards include:
- ARRL 5BDXCC
- ARRL DXCC for 30, 17, and 12 meters
- ARRL DXCC Challenge Award (over 1200 QSO’s)
- IARU WAC (Basic, Phone, and CW)
- CQ DX Award (Mixed, CW, SSB, and RTTY)
- WAS (Mixed, SSB and CW)
I have over 265 entities worked and 39 zones confirmed.
I am
active with the Imperial County ARES/RACES organizations. I am also a W5YI and
ARRL Volunteer Examiner and the Trustee and Founder of the Imperial Valley
Amateur Radio Club (KC7EQW).
I retired from the U.S. Navy in 1997 as a Chief Petty Officer. During my career
I amassed over 4100 flight hours as a Flight Mechanic and Loadmaster on various
cargo aircraft. I am also FAA Commercial Pilot, although I am not active. I
worked in the aerospace industry for over 32 years and am now semi-retired;
trying to enjoy my family and hobbies more than I was able to while working.
My future goals for ham radio, besides making the Honor Roll someday; I would like to participate in a DX and IOTA expedition.
